Volunteer Opportunities

Social Justice Mitzvah Day, August 2, 2020

Many Reform congregations around the state will be joining us. Together, we will take action, get educated, and pursue justice. Want to plan ahead? Get excited? Make sure your friends are joining in too? Please see the tentative program for the day and what you can do to prepare. Note: The program is a combination of Zoom events and at-home activities. Havdallah and Pray-In

What can you do to prepare? Volunteers are needed to read names. Please contact Shelby Alinsky to volunteer. This is a Zoom activity OR possibly socially-distanced activity.

 

Virtual 3.6K in honor of Ahmaud Arbary

What can you do to prepare? Plan out your 2.23 mile route and get others to commit to walk, jog, run, or bike with you. This is an at-home activity.

 

Get the Vote Out Postcards

What can you do to prepare? Pick up postcards, stamps, and addresses. Contact Jean Eglinton to coordinate efforts. This is an at-home activity.

 

Civic engagement via the 5 Calls app

No preparation needed. This is an online activity.

 

Adult Beginner's Reading Discussion

What can you do to prepare? Read two articles: “White Privilege: Unpacking the Invisible Knapsack” by Peggy McIntosh and “Defining Racism: Can we Talk” by Dr. Beverly Daniel Tatum. This is a Zoom activity.

 

Community Teen Read: Dear Martin by Nic Stone

What can you do to prepare? Read the book. Copies are available for pickup at Oxford Exchange or can be shipped to Beth Am members for $5; call the store and mention the Congregation Beth Am Teen Read. This is a Zoom activity. Questions? Please email Adeline Habgood at or Sue Ellen Corning

The Tampa Jewish Family Services (TJFS) Food Bank  

 

Every month many of our friends and neighbors turn to the to the Food Bank for help.  Please consider donating non-perishable food items to help replenish the shelves. Any donation would be appreciated.  Leave your donations in the basket labeled Food Bank in the Beth Am lobby, and we’ll make sure it gets to the TJFS Food Bank.
